Traditional custom wine cellars are still popular among homeowners who want to enjoy sipping a glass of their favorite wine in a place with a classic feel. In one of the projects completed by our team at Custom Wine Cellars Orange County, we helped a client transform her space into an inviting haven for her prized collection. Read on to learn more about the features of the stylish wine room that made the owner fall in love with it.

Traditional Custom wine Cellar Design: Features that Inspire

In this traditional custom wine cellar project in Orange County, we had to deal with the small space in the client’s home. She and her family are wine lovers, so they decided to collect a few bottles of wine and liquor. She wanted to have a wine display showcasing her wines, scotches, tequilas, and storage for her cigars. She also wanted her private wine cellar to be a place where she could play music with her guitar.

Dealing with the Small Space for a Traditional Custom Wine Cellar

Space constraints did not hinder our team from building an awe-inspiring traditional custom wine cellar. We conducted an on-site visit and made a thorough assessment of the client’s needs and requirements. We always take note of every detail to achieve the perfect design according to the owner’s preferences.

In this project, we built the wine room in a room measuring 8 feet by 7 feet. With extensive knowledge and experience in the design and construction industry, we converted the small space into an inviting and functional wine cellar.

In about six weeks, the wood wine racks were shipped, and we completed the installation in two days. We installed the wine racks on the back and left walls, maximizing the storage capacity of the wine room.

Wood Wine Racks: Ideal Material for a Traditional Custom Wine Cellar

Wood is a sought-after material in wine cellar construction. Its warmth and timeless appeal create an inviting ambiance. At Custom Wine Cellars Orange County, we offer different wood species for manufacturing wine racks, including Redwood, Alder, Mahogany, and Pine.

Our team decided to use Knotty Alder because the owner wanted to achieve a rustic appearance in his traditional custom wine cellar. This type of wood has attractive knots and swirls that add character to the racking.

However, in this wine cellar, these patterns are not visible because we applied rich Cherry stain on the wood, giving the racking a darker color. The rich tone of the wine racks complements the existing theme of the home.

In addition to its beauty, another reason Knotty Alder is perfect for a refrigerated wine cellar is its ability to withstand highly humid conditions, resistance to warping, and durability.

Features of the Wine Racks That Make This Traditional Custom Wine Cellar Unique and Functional

Designing wine rack systems requires creativity and expertise. Our team has keen attention to detail. We always want every wine cellar to e exceptional.

In his wine cellar construction project in Orange County, we utilized two walls of the room. On the left wall, we incorporated single-deep and double-deep wine racks into the design. Most of the openings were intended for wine bottles, while some of them were designed for liquors.

We included a square arch at the top center of the racking on the back wall. It has a tabletop where the owner can decant and pour wines and display some accessories and a few bottles vertically.

We added various bottle configurations around the arch to maximize storage capacity and add character to the traditional custom wine cellar. These include vertical display racks for the liquor bottles, lattice diamond bins, horizontal display areas for the wine, individual wine racks, and double high-reveal display rows.

The bottom section consists of double-deep racking, single-column wine racks, a drawer, and a wine cooler to achieve a stable environment.

On the back wall, you will find lattice X-bins, individual wine racks, and horizontal display racks. We also included double high-reveal display rows running in the middle. These rows pitch the bottles at an angle to keep the cork moist and prevent wine oxidation. The LED ribbon lighting system illuminates the bottles in the display rows.

The end racking on the left and back walls consists of a lattice curved-corner round wine rack designed by the client. The stylish curved corner wine racks have five shelves where the owner displays accouterments and accessories like decanters. One of the tequilas can be seen on one of the shelves too.

Wine Cellar Ladder for Added Functionality

Another stylish feature of this Orange County residential wine cellar is the rolling ladder. Since the ceilings were tall (8 o 9 feet high), we decided to add railings and a ladder so the owner can have easy access to her wine bottles located in the racking beyond her reach.

In this project, we utilized the bent ladder considering the double deep wine racks installed on one of the walls. The railings will allow the client to move the ladder from one wall to another without lifting it.

Wine Cellar Cooling System

Ideally, a wine cellar has to be equipped with a wine cooling system. However, in this project, the owner did not want one because she wanted to save on the cost, and she was just starting to collect and drink wines and liquors.

We did not have to remove the existing walls. The house was air-conditioned, but we still had to ensure the wines could preserve their desirable characteristics. We installed a wine cooler within the racking on the right wall. It was an economical solution for a budget-savvy wine lover.
